Plitvice Lakes is the most popular national park in Croatia and also the oldest. It’s not just a natural phenomenom, it is a piece of Paradise that descended from the sky and settled the northern part of Croatia. There is no reason why you shouldn’t visit it but just in case we will give you a list of things you must know about Plitvice.
WHY GO ..?
As I mentioned before there is no reason why you shouldn’t.. breathtaking waterfalls, unhidden nature, deep blue and green lakes all over the place.. you will be truly amazed and start question yourself how are places like this even real.. So if capable definitely put Plitvice on your ”Places I want to see in lifetime ” bucket list.
HOW TO GET THERE..?
This shouldn’t be a problem to anyone. Almost everyone is organizing tours to Pitvice so find an agency in a city you are staying at and book the Plitvice Lakes tour. That is how you won’t have to worry about the transportation or the tickets. Tho if you have your own transportation through all the way to Plitvice are directions so it is really hard to get lost.

BEST TIME TO VISIT?
Whenever you want to or can. Plitvice won’t escape anywhere.. The recomended time to visit is in Spring ( April, May) or in the Fall ( September, October ) because temperatures are nice and they are not seasonal months. However if you only have summer time to visit it do it. Yes it will be crowded, yes it will be busy and hot but it is really worth visiting it.
Beauty has no price but maintain the national park has… Tickets can be bought on the entrance to the Park, or online. Prices in the pre season and high season are different.

It is important to know this fact. Why..? Because during summer, winter and through all year Split and Dalmatia have hot summers and mild warm winters however Plitivice are part of middle Croatia where are the Dinarids and Velebit mountains, so that is why that area has different climate than the rest of Croatia. Nights are chill and days are hot so before visiting Plitvice better double check the temperature to be safe and to know what to wear. During winter the snow visits the lakes so it gives them a magical snow cover which is the beginnig of winter fairytale…
BEST PANORAMA VIEW
Every picture of Plitvice is magical but we all want to go to the place where ”All those Internet pictures ” are taken at. Concider that some of them were shoot proffesional and in company of experienced staff so don’t be Indiana Jones and stick to the walking paths. Accidents happened already in the park beacuse tourists would go ”just” to take picture where they are not suppose to be taken. In the section letter C you can find those paths that take you to the ”place from Internet” …
Safety first. Wear snickers or walking shoes and avoid flip flops or sandals. It can be slippery in the park and I think no one wants to end up with some injuries . Clothes depense on the weather conditions, and it is strictly forbiden to step your foot to the unmarked track of the NP. Follow the rules and enjoy in this natural wonder completely undisturbed.
SWIMMING IN PLITVICE
If one of the reasons is an idea to swim inside of the Park then I must disappoint you. Swimming in the Np Plitvice is strictly forbidden. However if your desire to swim under the waterfalls is too strong than just…. http://www.croatia-dream.com/unique-krka/
The well known fact is that Plitvice are 3 and half hours ride distance from Split but where to go if you already done the Split county tour and want to explore something new in Croatia. If no problem with time go to the ” city of Sunsets” – Zadar, which is hour and 30 minutes from the Np. Zadar rich with its history sure is magical city full of history like every other corner of old Croatia. Experience famous sea organs, and the old town from Roman times… Zadar was also declared as the Top destination by the Lonely Planet.
However if going back south is not an option for you, Velebit National park is close by. The most famous Croatian mountain is litteraly on your hand… Such a small country and yet so many National Parks…
To add the capital Zagreb to the list. Two hours drive from the lakes and you are in the Croatian Vienna. Zagreb is city that has everything but the sea. Jokes on Zagreb.. however definitely has to be visited once in your lifetime. Beautiful fountains, green parks, old Parlament buildings from Austro-hungarian empire, the remarkable Cathedral, unique Museum of broken relationships and many others..
ere you have a list around Plitvice so find the one that matches your plans and enjoy in beauties of Croatia…
WHERE TO EAT?…
So this is the most important question… The answer is even more important..
Ofcourse National Park provides restaurants and places to eat. My advice is to take the empty backpack, load it with food and beverages if possible and make your own piknick in the park. Just remember to clean after you finish to keep the park beautiful.
