63. Split Summer Festival
Whether you’re coming in Split to enjoy the beaches and relax, to get some partying in, or just as a transfer point, be sure to get in some culture as well as the sun. And there is no better way to enjoy everything that Split’s culture life has to give as visiting the Split Summer Festival.
This month long manifestation has been going on for over 60 years. It has become a staple of Split summers that locals always revel in, and an event that is awaited all year long. But as Split has become a more and more popular tourist destination, the Summer Festival has become an international event. Filled with legendary and well known dramas, operas, concerts, balet’s and plays, and some that are getting their premiere at the festival, the festival offers something for everyone.
But the crowning point of this cultural feast is sure to be the locations for each show. The locations are actually what makes Split Summer Festival so unique, as everything is set in one part of the Old Town or another. That means you can watch a play at the old city cemetery of Sustipan, or enjoy Aida at the Peristil square. There is no experience quite like it.
This years Festival is set to run through 14th of July to the 14th of August, and it is sure to be a filled with must see shows. Some of this years stand outs are Aida, The Barber of Seville, Agony, Dervish and Death, Ero from Another World… The one show for which you can be sure there will be askance for an extra ticket is the opera Aida, which is traditionally set at the Peristil square. It has last been shown in Split in 2014., and it is going to be a triumphant return to the Split stage.
