Famous traditional restaurant is Stobreč


Many (and we do mean many) times in our blogging adventures here we’ve talked about the meaning of the word KONOBA. We will not be repeating it because of your sanity and ours. But as just a quick reminder, KONOBA is a prefix that means a traditional Dalmatian restaurant. Which means it is usually family owned, has traditional food (and lots and lots of wine), and is decorated in a specific way usually wood and is placed in a cellar.

Konoba Nikola in Stobreč (10-15 minute ride from Split) is all of those things. Opened sometime in the early 2000s, this is a beloved family-run restaurant. Located in the subterranean rooms of a family home, it has the feel of a traditional restaurant, but the tastes are far above it. The owners, chefs, and waiters make sure that their fish is freshly caught, vegetables newly plucked and picked, and the meat is locally sourced. Because of that, and the traditional way of preparing food, you will not be disappointed with a single meal here. Fish is definitely something we suggest you try. But even though this author is a big meat lover, let me nudge you in the way of their black squid risotto.

Reservations are encouraged in a high summer season, so keep that in mind. Take the short ride from Split and enjoy some of the best that Dalmatia has to offer!

    I can’t add much that hasn’t been said in other reviews outstanding meal great service . Price was still reasonable had tasting 5 course menu with one of the courses a full size portion of fish not a tasting size including 2 bottles of wine for. 80$ person . I was staying in the old town of split and was a little concerned about taxi but Uber was quick and easy both ways a great place if you want something special

    Stayed at Le Meridien Lav in Podstrana for a couple of nights. The first night we took a short cab ride to the cute town of Stobrec to Konaba Nicola. I knew instantly that I would love this place, it had only about a dozen tables & most of them were occupied. The waiter helped us choose an appetizer combination of Clam Casino, a scallop & a clam. Kovac (John Dory) was the fresh fish on offer that night. Grilled to perfection, it was superb! We had a side of Blitva & Potatoes, so fresh. Konoba Nicola was so good, we made a reservation for the next night!

  3. Excellent Sea Food but not cheap

    We ate here one evening on the recommendation of a taxi driver. The food was excellent and full of taste. The proprietor put together a meal for four of us for a budget of 1100kN – about £141 with drinks extra. This was good value but was an economy menu, the a-la-carte fish meals were much dearer. I would not hesitate to use this place again.

  4. Feels like home

    We visited this restaurant having read the other reviews on here and we were definitely not disappointed. We went for the tuna carpaccio, salmon and shrimp pate to start. Then followed by seafood risotto, tuna fillet and beef fillet. To finish we went with strawberry pancake. Wines were very good. The price was very fair and the experience was wonderful, a very at home feel!
